Reaction
The reaction to the atomic bomb and the Manhattan Project varied greatly due to personal experiences during World War II. The Allied nations were jubilant for the war to end and the homecoming of their soldiers. The Japanese however suffered utter devastation.

Military officials originally thought descriptions of devastation was propaganda by the Japanese as evidenced by a telephone conversation between General Groves and Lt. Col. Rea.
